It's wonderful to have the privilege of being part of a family. I know all about it. I'm the second of three children. The daughter in the middle of two super-brothers. The harmony wasn't always there (oh! Surprise!), but being surrounded by them fulfilled my need to belong, my need to identify with a clan.
Seeing a friend's children share this moment of intimacy around a cell phone made me think again that there's nothing more defining than those moments shared with your family when you're a child. You carry the imprint with you forever.
